How to help a lightning victim in an emergency

When you see a victim of lightning –

(1) Call an emergency ambulance .

A person struck by lightning may go into cardiac arrest , so it is necessary to start breathing as soon as possible. So tell me the exact location and call the hospital quickly. According to the CDC, don’t worry about using your cell phone even if there’s a storm . Talking on the phone is not dangerous . Then shout to the people nearby for help. Things to do next would be better if we got help.

(2) Study the situation.

Is there still more danger to myself and the patient? Learn if it’s safe and then move. For example – the center of the field where the patient is. Or if you are under a tree, there is a risk of lightning. So move the patient to a safe place as soon as it is safe. The lightning can touch the victim’s body. There will be no electricity left in his body.

(3) Test if you are still breathing .

When struck by lightning, the heart can stop . Is the patient still breathing? Test if you can still hear the heartbeat. The best way to check your pulse is to place your hand on the carotid artery just below the jaw.

(4) Emergency life saver .

If the patient is not breathing, CPR should be performed immediately.

If the patient has no pulse, chest compressions should be used

-Place the heel of one hand in the middle of the patient’s chest and press on it with the other hand.

-Stretch both arms, Use the heel of the hand to apply weight and force on both hands.

-If you press once, you should press down about two inches on the patient’s chest and do it at a rate of 100 times per minute.

First, use the mouth-to-mouth breathing method. (If you don’t know how to do this method, you can do it if you don’t want to do it. You can do one type of chest press.)

-First, place the patient in a supine position on a flat floor. Keep your head straight.

-Close the patient’s nose. Take a normal breath and blow into the patient’s mouth with your mouth.

-Watch to see if the patient’s chest rises during the one-second inspiration. If it rises, take a second breath. If it doesn’t rise, check if the airway is open properly. If it doesn’t open, the head tilts, Repeat the chin thrust and inhale again.

-Then keep pressing the chest. The normal way is to do 30 chest compressions and 2 breaths (30 ratio 2).

CPR should be performed once for two minutes and the patient’s condition should be reassessed. It must be continued until the patient regains consciousness or until an ambulance arrives. That’s why I say call for help in the beginning. Doing chest compressions alone will make you weak and tired.

If the surrounding area is cold and damp, place a cloth or buffer between the floor and the patient to prevent hypothermia .

Note that –

Depending on where the patient was when struck by lightning, falling from a height, If there was any kind of flying away, broken bones, Bleeding and other side effects are common. If the patient is like this, it is better not to move from the place. For example, by stopping the bleeding , emergency care should be provided for these injuries.
